Salary: $91,087.00 - $100,000.00 Annually Location: Olympia, WA The Washington State Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) seeks a Staff Attorney/Assistant Director to join the OSPI team. This full-time position is based in Olympia, Washington. This position may be eligible for a partial telework schedule. Telework is a combination of in-building and off-site days. Position Overview The purpose of this position is to support the Director of the Office of Professional Practices (OPP) by handling the daily operations of OPP Investigations including planning, supervision, and monitoring of OPP investigation progress. This position reports to the Director of OPP and must interact with administrative and other personnel of the agency, public agencies, school district, educational service districts, private schools, colleges, assistant attorneys general, administrative law judges, other persons in the teacher certification filed, and the general public. This position manages and oversees OPP investigations and has supervisory authority over OPP investigators. This position works under the guidance of State and federal regulations and agency policy and procedures. The position is directed by the provisions contained in the common school manual, including Title 28A RCW, Chapters 181-86 and -87 WAC, and Title 392 WAC. This position has statewide impact and scope for working with and supervising the OPP investigators to plan, manage and conduct comprehensive field investigations of factually complex complaints regarding the professional conduct of persons holding educational certification, received by the Superintendent of Public Instruction, which may involve civil litigation. The investigations may involve allegations of unethical, unprofessional or inappropriate conduct by certificated educational personnel statewide, reported to the Superintendent of Public Instruction or learned of independently by OSPI involving allegations of misconduct listed under WAC 181-86-013. This position works with the OPP investigators to prepare findings of facts and proposed, agreed and final orders, as well as negotiate appropriate levels of discipline in these cases with opposing counsel and non-represented individuals under investigation. This position is separate and distinguished from other entities within OSPI. This position will act as a liaison between outside entities and OSPI to provide consultation to educational entities and the general public to interpret, review and apply WAC 181-86/87 and RCW chapter 28A.
